Summertime is time for Allergy Testing!!!

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

While the arrival of summer usually conjures up images of beach vacations and kids leaving for camp, at DallasAllergyImmunology we are gearing up for our busiest allergy testing season of the year.

Why is summer such a popular time of year to schedule allergy testing?  First, there is more time and flexibility during the summer months to schedule these elective visits.  Second, summertime offers an opportunity for patients to stop antihistamines in preparation for allergy testing (up to 10 days required for many products) with minimal aggravation since the pollen counts are very low during the hot months.  Finally, many patients prefer to start allergen immunotherapy (“allergy shots”) by rush desensitization during the summer months in order to escalate rapidly to maintenance dosing before school starts.  Allergy testing is required to formulate a specific allergen immunotherapy prescription for allergy shots.

Our practice no longer uses Quest Laboratory

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

We regret to inform you that, effective February 14, 2011, our practice will no longer process laboratory services through Quest Diagnostics.  We reached this decision because of  Quest Diagnostics’ many laboratory processing errors (mishandling of blood) and difficulty in obtaining test results.  Quest’s consistently poor performance has resulted in the need for repeat blood draws and delayed care because of unavailable results.  Our repeated efforts to remedy these problems with Quest have been fruitless.

If your insurance company maintains an exclusive contract with Quest Diagnostics, you will have the following two options for obtaining lab studies:

  1. You may use laboratory services provided by LabCorp.
  2. You may continue using exclusive, in-network services through Quest Diagnostics.  We will provide written laboratory requisitions with appropriate codes but you will be responsible for obtaining your test results and providing them to us.

We regret the inconvenience that results from your insurance company’s exclusive contract with Quest Diagnostics.
