Aerochamber Instructions for Use

Description:
The Aerochamber™ is a 6-inch plastic tube with a mouthpiece and one-way valve allowing inhalation (breathing in) only on one end and a rubber cap with a hole permitting insertion of the MDI unit on the opposite end.

Technique:
1. Remove cap on MDI unit and insert into hole in rubber end cap. The MDI should fit snugly into the hole.

2. Holding the MDI connected to the Aerochamber™ together, shake for 5-10 seconds to agitate contents of the MDI.

3. For best results, take asthma MDI’s while standing.

4. After exhaling (breathing out) gently (not forcefully), seal lips around Aerochamber™ mouthpiece and begin inhaling (breathing in) slowly and steadily. A low-pitched whistling noise indicates that you are breathing in too rapidly.

5. Within half a second after starting to breathe in, press MDI canister to deliver one spray. Continue slow, steady inhalation without interruption to breathe in as deeply as possible. Hold breath at maximum inhalation for 5-10 seconds, then remove Aerochamber™ from mouth, breathe out, relax and breathe normally.

6. Wait 20-30 seconds before taking additional sprays of medication as prescribed by your doctor. Repeat steps 2 through 5 above for each additional spray of medication.

7. Always rinse mouth after taking asthma inhalers.

Care Instructions:
1. Keep stored in clean zip-lock bag while not in use to keep it free of dust and lint.

2. Clean once weekly. First, remove the rubber cap (inhaler end) and inspect for cracking or tearing. This may be gently hand-washed in warm soapy water, then rinsed and left overnight to dry on a dish rack or towel. The tube portion may be gently cleaned with a sponge, paper towel or bottlebrush. The Aerochamber™ device is not dishwasher safe.

3. With daily use, the device usually needs to be replaced every six to twelve months due to deterioration of the rubber components in the end pieces.
